The rich heritage of North Norfolk is plane to see from its historic buildings and gardens to its churches and castles. The Royal Estate of Sandringham is a must for most visitors and has everything from stunning gardens and forest grounds, historics tours of the royal house to adveture in a fantastic forest playground and picnic area with palatial pump house and slide.
Visitors can explore the castles at Castle Acre near Swaffam or Castle Rising which is near Sandringham and is considered one of the countries largest, best preserved and most lavishly decorated keeps.
Wiveton Hall made famous by the BBC2 series can be found near Blakeney, where visitors can explore the 17th Century grounds, cafe, fruit farm and ever changing art exhibitions.
Houghton Hall is a fine Palladian-style house, built in the 1720s for Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister. The grounds are now populated with a growing number of modern sculptures by world renowned artists that include Anish Kapoor and Tony Cragg.
Burnham Thorpe is the childhood home of Norfolk's son Lord Nelson. Sadly his rectory home is now gone, however visitors can visit All Saints Church, Burnham Thorpe where his farther was the parish vicar. Alternatively visitors might enjoy the path out to the beach from Burnham Overy Staithe where Nelson would have sailed as a boy.
North Norfolk is blessed with some of the countries most oustanding beaches. If you like big open sandy beaches with calm and relatively shallow waters then North Norfolk is your place.
Brancaster beach is designated as an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, with expansive golden sandy beach, secluded sand dunes, creeks, salt marshes and its very own shipwreck the SS Vina. Grey and common seals can sometimes be seen basking on the bech towards Tichwell.
Holkham beach made famous by its film set credentials is a breathtaking golden expanse of sand which plays hoste to the Household Cavalry and Royal Artillery summer beach rides each year.
Blakeney Point Nature reserve is major site along the North Norfolk Coast for migrating birds and breeding especially terns. It is also home to colonies of grey and common seals which can be found basking out on the spit.
There are a numerous active or relaxing attractions to be found along the North Norfolk Coast, with lots of activities to keep kids of all ages entertained.
Wonderful adventure parks with enormous slides, tree houses, rope bridges and working water pump houses can be found at Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve.
Extreme adveture including quad biking, army style assault courses and high ropes adventure courses can be found in Weasenham Woods.
More leisurely attractions include Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary, magnificent museums like Cromer Museum where you can view the bones of a 600,000 year old mammoth which was discovered in nearby West Runton Beach.
The spectacular Thursford Collection with its collection of steam engines, organs and fair ground attractions will entertain the whole family young and old on a rainy day and is a must visit at christmas for its amazing christmas extravaganza.
North Norfolk is one of the most important an rewardingly rich bird watching areas of the UK coast with plenty to see all year round. Migratory birds are attracted to the area in spring and autumn and the varied landscape is host to all manner of water fowl. North Norfolk has some fantastic steam railways that travel up and down the coast through some beautiful scenery.
Visitors and steam enthusiasts can jump on the Poppy Line which runs from the coastal town of Sheringham to the georgian town of Holt. The line is run completely by volunteers and has a service throughout the year. Each year Sheringham Station & Town transform for one weekend into a 1940's scene with costumed RAF airmen and british and american soldiers which is great fun too.
The Wells to Walsingham Light Railway is a delightful little line that is the longest 10-and-a-quarter-inch narrow gauge steam railway in the world and runs some four miles through rolling Norfolk countryside to Walsingham, it has two trains unique to the railway, the Norfolk Heroine and the Norfolk Hero.
Another narrow guage railway is the Wells Harbour Light Railway which runs from the Wells quay out to the beach and is a great way to access the beach when the car park is busy.
There are a number of courses dotted along the North Norfolk Coast, of which two - Royal West Noroflk and Hunstanton are rightly ranked amongst the top 100 18-hole layouts in Great Britain and Ireland. Both links courses are located close together, some seven miles apart, so serious golfers have absolutely no reason not to play both when visiting the area.
Positioned on the western outskirts of the town, Sheringham Golf Links is a thin sliver of land flanked by the North sea one side and the North Norfolk Steam Railway on the other. Ranked as one of the Uk's top courses and positioned near the Royal Cromer Course too, so you're really spoilt for choice.
There its lots to do and explore on the water along the Norfolk coast. Whether you're a keen dinghy sailor who enjoys racing, kite surfer or wind surfer or new to water sports and fancy trying somthing new for the first time, there are great opportunities to get wet.
Hunstanton Water Sports with a choice of exciting activities will helps you get out exploring and enjoying the water, whether its learning to kite surf or having a leisurely paddle on a group SUP board session.
If you fancy exploring the creeks of Brancaster and Burnham Overy Staithe you might like to try North Norfolk Paddle Boards who offer hire, tours and lessons to get you started.
Seasoned sailors and dinghy racers might like to try Brancaster Sailing Club, Blakeney Sailing Club or Snettisham Sailing Club for competitive racing.
If you fancy getting out on the water but dont fancy getting wet, visitors can hop on boat tours from Blakeney (Beans or Temple) to see the seals or Burnham Overy Staithe to tour the harbour or visit Scolt Head island.
